Avec son plus récent album Laugh Away the Sun, Harfang présente une vision renouvelée et actuelle du rock-indie. Teintée des sonorités électro et fortement influencé par le folk, la musique du groupe présente l’ensemble des influences de ses membres dans un univers onirique. À mi-chemin entre l’organique et le numérique, Harfang explore sur Laugh Away the Sun la psyché humaine et ses dérapages dans une approche introspective.

Souvent qualifiée d’onirique, la musique de Harfang se fait vibrante et envoûtante depuis la formation du groupe en 2013 autour du chanteur et auteur-compositeur Samuel Wagner. Les premières chansons du groupes, a forte influences folk et indie-rock, ont été enregistrées en deux EPs (Harfang EP [2014] et Flood [2015]) bien accueillis par la critique et les médias spécialisés. Rapidement après la sortie de Flood et de la tournée de lancement, le groupe s’est remis à la composition en prévision de la sortie de son premier album.

 

Sans le savoir, le groupe se lançait dans un processus qui s’est révélé trouble et houleux. Face à ses propres démons et au spectre de la séparation, Harfang a dû apprendre à se servir des moments de crise et en faire profiter la création. Rapidement, des thèmes se sont imposés menant à Laugh Away the Sun, un album présenté comme une exploration de la psyché humaine et de ses dérapages, dans une approche introspective.

Avec la sortie des singles Stockholm, Flatline et plus tard Pleasure, le groupe annonçait le nouveau son a venir, éloignant le quintet du folk de ses débuts pour l’amener vers une tendance plus fortement rock et teintée de sonorités électro. Ces sorties indépendantes témoignaient du même coup de la volonté du groupe de continuer avec Laugh Away the Sun son parcours autonome, un aspect important de la démarche de Wagner et ses acolytes David Boulet-Tremblay (Guitare), Mathieu Rompré (Batterie), Antoine Angers (Guitare, Claviers, voix) et Alexis Taillon-Pellerin (Basse).

Dans la foulée de la sortie de Laugh Away the Sun, Harfang a parcouru les routes du Québec et présenté son nouveau spectacle dans les festivals estivaux avec des passages remarqués au Festival d’été de Québec et au Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, notamment.

 

Tranquillement, le groupe se recentre sur la création de nouvelles pièces, un passage obligé pour ses membres avides de création.

The group from Quebec, Harfang, presents in the winter of 2017 Laugh Away The Sun, their first complete album. Following their two EPs that were an exploration of folk and indie rock, this album takes the listener into a universe of dream imagery tinted with electro sonorities. Midway between organic and digital, Harfang explores the human psyche with an introspective approach.

//LONG VERSION //

Often qualified as dreamy in style, the music of Harfang has proved vibrant and captivating ever since the formation of the group in 2013 around the singer-songwriter Samuel Wagner. Influenced by folk and indie rock, the songs by this group have been recorded in two Eps, (Harfang EP [2014] et Flood [2015]), that were well-received by critics and media. The group released a complete album in January 2017, a project that has been underway since last summer.

 

Harfang released, in the spring of 2016, a first song from the next album, Flatline, a number that presented a new sound style that moved away from folk in their first efforts to move toward a tendency that is much more rock and showing electro sounds. This new single bears witness at the same time to the will of the group to continue their independent rout. Wagner and his disciples, David Boulet-Tremblay (guitar), Mathieu Rompre (percussion), Antoine Angers (guitar, keyboards, vocals) and Alexis Taillon-Pellerin (bass, keyboards) also showcase their active participation in the emerging and independent music scene in Quebec with their participation in different musical projects on stage and in the wings.

 

A tour that has been created in collaboration with « Le Pantoum » was held in the winter of 2017 to mark the release of the first full album by Harfang, Laugh Away The Sun. The group De La Reine has joined with Harfang for a series of shows that led the musicians to the four corners of Quebec. For the rest, Harfang presents his new show in 2017 and 2018 in several venues and festivals of Quebec.
